FINIKIA

Location

A walk back in time, to the underground vaulted cellars, the colorful "canaves" of Finikia, just a breath from the cosmopolitan Oia.

Pastel, blue and pink houses have taken the place of the old wineries, where winemakers used to store their precious grapes.

A captain’s architectural “daughter” the church of Agia Matrona offers the whole Aegean on the plate, while on October 20 it celebrates its own festival in local sounds. The joy – the most strengthening vitamin for the heart – follows the next morning the carrying of the St. Matrona’s icon in the carved alleys with rosemary sprigs to fill the smell of the air.

The architecture of the past untouched – with its cute courtyards, countless steps and interesting facades makes a window for the eye to travel. The color, the character and the beauty seem to be synonymous with Finikia since forever. Its soils were the first to – proudly – give birth to the famous vinsanto of Santorini. Wild prickly pears, colorful bougainvillea and old cave houses transport body and soul to another era.

Small, quiet and unexplored, Finikia, so close to the famous Oia, yet so far from the noise, considers peace and relaxation as a personal matter. Keeping its promise to make the most beautiful sunset in the world accessible, without losing its privacy, it is only a10 min. walk on the carved streets from the most famous village of Santorini.
